Before you start
Do I need to download an app?
No. Ouyu works in your browser on a phone or computer, with English and Simplified Chinese interfaces.
Can I send photos or video?
You can send text and images. Video and voice calls are not available.
What does anonymous mean here?
You do not need to give a real name or email to chat. Your optional profile is shown to your chat partner. Ouyu still processes a browser identity, connection information and messages. Chats are not end-to-end encrypted, and administrators can review content for safety.
Are my chats public?
Chats are not public web pages. A bottle can be picked up by different people, but each reply starts a separate conversation. Other people can still copy or screenshot anything you send.
Can I come back to my friends?
Use the same browser. Clearing browser data, changing devices or losing the identity cookie can make your friends and history inaccessible.
What happens if someone behaves badly?
End the chat, report the content or block the person. The service is for adults 18+ and prohibits pornography, harassment, scams and illegal content. The age declaration is not verified proof of age.
Privacy at a glance
Safety records of text and images are kept for 7 days; friend history for up to 30 days. Reports have a separate 7-day period. Complaint case records are cleared 90 days after closure; open cases are reviewed periodically. Backups follow a 7-day retention policy; lawfully preserved incident records have separate periods. Hosting is in Canada, encrypted backups are in the United States, and support and moderation are handled from China. See Rules & privacy in the chat app for details.

Ouyu is independently operated from China by an individual using the public-facing name Peter Kong, who is also the privacy contact. Email us for support, complaints or privacy requests. Data access and deletion requests can also be started under Contact us in the app. Do not email passwords, codes or identity documents.

Request removal of intimate images
You or your authorised representative can request removal of intimate images of you, including altered or AI-generated images. Email us with the subject “Image removal”. Include a content link or message ID, enough detail to locate it, contact information, your or your representative’s physical or electronic signature, and a statement that you believe in good faith it was shared without consent. No account is needed. Do not attach intimate images or identity documents. We will reply with a case number and the outcome. Reply in the same email thread to add information, check progress or challenge a decision.
